REFUGEE OUTREACH - December 2010
Page 1

Rick & I left for Thailand on Nov 3rd, planning to travel to five different cities in Thailand. Bangkok was to be our first stop, then we would travel to Lampang, Mae Sot, Chiang Mae and Mae Sariang. The first refugee camp we would visit was about an hour's drive out of the border town of Mae Sot.

I was really excited about this trip since I hadn't been able to visit my refugee families since 2008.

Here is a photo of me with one of my dear friends. I couldn't wait to see her again!

We arrived in Bangkok after almost 30 hours of flying and made it to the hotel about 1 a.m. We checked in and told the desk clerk we would be staying two nights and would need a wake- up call for 4:30 a.m. on the second morning so we could make our 7 a.m. flight to Lampang. It was 2:30 a.m. before we finally got showered and into bed. We were awakened at 4:30 by a wake-up call! The desk clerk obviously didn't understand that we wanted it for Saturday morning and not Friday. We were so tired, but neither of us could go back to sleep, so at 6 a.m. we got up and went looking for some food. After eating, neither of us felt like exploring Bangkok on 2 hours sleep, so we laid down for a "nap" and woke up at 6 p.m.!
